40 Inspirational Speeches in 2 Minutes

CLICK HERE FOR THE YOU TUBE LINK

If it’s an inspiring speech, you betcha it has been said in the movies somewhere. Here’s a truly inspiring video clip, edited by Matthew Belinkie of OverthinkingIt: 40 Inspirational Speeches in 2 Minutes.

Transcript:

Shame on you. This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you’re going to let it be the worst. And I guarantee a week won’t go by in your life you won’t regret walking out, letting them get the best of you. Well, I’m not going home. We’ve come too far! And I’m going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause. A day may come when the courage of men fails… but it is not THIS day. The line must be drawn HERE. This far, no further! I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. You’re going to work harder than you ever worked before. But that’s fine, we’ll just get tougher with it! If a person grits his teeth and shows real determination, failure is not an option. That’s how winning is done! Believe me when I say we can break this army here, and win just one for the Gipper. But I say to you what every warrior has known since the beginning of time: you’ve got to get mad. I mean plum mad dog mean. If you would be free men, then you must fight to fulfill that promise! Let us cut out their living guts one inch at a time, and they will know what we can do! Let no man forget how menacing we are. We are lions! You’re like a big bear, man! This is YOUR time! Seize the day, never surrender, victory or death… that’s the Chicago Way! Who’s with me? Clap! Clap! Don’t let Tink die! Clap! Alright! Let’s fly! And gentlemen in England now abed shall know my name is the Lord when I tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our Independence Day!

The Google Street View Prank

When Ben Kinsley and Robin Hewlett of Carnegie Mellon University found out that Google Street View is coming to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the duo arranged a more "interesting" view of the street: they staged a marathon, a parade, a mad-scientist laboratory, and even a sword fight!

An Interactive Guide to The Simpsons’ Springfield

This is amazing! It’s an interactive map of Springfield that a fan put together. Click anywhere on the map to zoom in - the black text represents retail stores and the pink text represents restaurants. If you hover your mouse over the green boxes, you can view a screen cap of that particular building.

I can’t imagine the time it must have taken to put this together! Even if you don’t care that much about the map itself, it’s worth it just to go through and read the clever names of some of the establishments - the Texas Cheesecake Depository cracks me up.

Venice under water

The recent "acqua alta" (high water) in Venice, Italy reached a depth of 1.56 meters (5 ft, 1 in.) on Monday - the deepest flood in 22 years, and the fourth highest flood level in recent history, claimed Venice's Tide Center. The water began to subside on Tuesday, while residents and tourists made their way through the city, hip-waders or not - one man even took the opportunity to ride his wakeboard through Piazza San Marco (until police stepped in). Although this flood was severe enough for the mayor to ask tourists to temporarily stay home, Venetian floods are fairly routine, several occurring every year, and residents usually take it all in stride.

2700 year old marijuana stash discovered

Nearly two pounds of still-green plant material found in a 2,700-year-old grave in the Gobi Desert has just been identified as the world's oldest marijuana stash, according to a paper in the latest issue of the Journal of Experimental Botany.

(somewhere a 2700 year old mummy is thinking "oh yeah, i remember where i left it now!")

Red eye - gone in 60 seconds.

Motorcycle riders in Jakarta, Indonesia, often suffer from eye irritation (red eye) caused by pollution on the road, so when Visine wants to advertise its product, a clever ad agency "modded" a red light that has a 60 seconds countdown timer, to show how fast the eye drop works.

musical road makes your car sing

grooves cut in the road so your car plays music as it drives - hard to show here but it's good - you really got to click the link
link here

"In September of 2008 we carved grooves into a quarter mile stretch of asphalt on the outskirts of Lancaster, CA. The goal was to create an experience that embodied the connection Civic drivers feel with the road. Did it work? Howd we do it? What was the song? Watch and learn. "

“Pretty girls are like cars that need a lot of oil.”

A Book on Dating -Written by a 9-year-old!

Fourth grader Alec Greven wrote a pamphlet called “How to Talk to Girls” which became a best seller at his school book fair in Castle Rock, Colorado. The 46-page book has now been picked up by publisher Harper Collins. Some tidbits:

“It is easy to spot pretty girls because they have big earrings, fancy dresses and all the jewelry,” he writes in Chapter Three.

“Pretty girls are like cars that need a lot of oil.”

He advises, “The best choice for most boys is a regular girl. Remember, some pretty girls are coldhearted when it comes to boys. Don’t let them get to you.”

He believes the best way to approach a girl is to keep it to a simple “hi.”

“If I say hi and you say hi back, we’re probably off to a good start,” he said.

As for his own love life, he said he is not dating anyone at the moment. “I’m a little too young,” he confessed.

Cool shit

The Hot Dog Launcher

A video about the effort it takes to design the Phillies’ air cannon that shoots hot dogs at games. This is scientific stuff - they go through small trial runs and even position people in an otherwise empty stadium to gauge how far they can launch and figure out the angles. But you can see that they have a lot of fun with it.

for the video, click here
the video is long - so skip up to about 3 minutes to see the launcher in action.

The Global Warming Swimming Pool: Swimming Above a Submerged City

No, New York is not underwater (yet, anyhow) - that’s a clever ad for HSBC by Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai ad agency in India. The bank wanted to raise awareness of the dangers of global warming, so the clever ad guys glued an aerial photo of a city’s skyscrapers to the base of a swimming pool … the effect of a submerged cityscape is fantastic!

MTV Climate Change Campaign for Amsterdam Canals

Switch is MTV Networks International’s Global Climate Change Campaign. They are always looking for ways to get people involved in the global warming issue and drive them to the the MTV Switch website, without necessarily using expensive media. To make people aware of the rising sea level because of global warming, they confronted them in an amusing way with a serious message using a floating board in the Amsterdam canals. This board seemed to be held by a submerged man with just his hands sticking out of the water. In reality it was two arms mounted on a small remote control submarine. The copy said: Global Warming. What’s all the fuss about? Find out for yourself www.mtvswitch.org. Because of the massive positive feedback. MTV is not only looking to extend the promotion to other Dutch cities, but also to air it on TV.

apartment transformed with blue copper sulphate crystals

Link here

80,000 litres of a copper sulphate solution was poured in from a hole in the ceiling. After a few weeks the temperature of the solution fell and the crystals began to grow. The remaining liquid was pumped back out.
